About the Event
Join the Glynn Environmental Coalition for our Spring Membership Outing! This month we are heading to the Thiokol Museum in Camden County. We will meet at 9:30 AM at the Winn-Dixie at 1941 Glynn Avenue, Brunswick, to carpool. In 2017, the Tiokol Musuem was established to preserve the history of the 600 workers that contributed to two national causes - tthe U.S. Space Program and the Vietnam War. It is the nation's singular institution concerned with researching the 1971 Plant explosion. The February 3rd, 1971 disaster is recongnized as the worst disaster in Camden County and is ranked as the 10th worst in U.S. history in 100 years. The footprint of the former Thiokol Plant is the location for the proposed Spaceport. This is a great opportunity to learn about the cultural and industrial history of this site. This field trip is FREE for members of our Annual Membership Community.
Sign the petition to have the 30 Fallen Patriots of Thiokol awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and the establishment of a Thiokol Memorial National Park (TMNP). The TMNP will honor and remember the 30 Fallen Patriots, the remaining 570 Woodbine Thiokol Plant Workers, the First Responders from the surrounding 16 cities, the 14 medical facilities, the United States Army, and the Navy, and Coast Guard First Responders.
Access the petition at thiokolmemorial.org/petition/. Click on "Add Your Voice." You will be able to sign the petition on change.org.
