Background Information

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division issued a Hazardous Waste Permit to Hercules and Pinova in 2020. Later, in 2022, the permit was amended to include the required Corrective Action Plan. The purpose of the Corrective Action Plan is to provide a description of the cleanup activities that are to be implemented to address environmental conditions at the former Hercules/Pinova Site.

Key elements of the Corrective Action Plan include:

  • Facility background and history

  • Cleanup technologies, as well as engineered solutions and institutional controls

  • Specific details related to cleanup activities to address soil and groundwater contamination, as well as vapor intrusion

  • A schedule or timeline for implementation

During the Public Meeting, residents can expect a progress update on the implementation of the cleanup activities outlined in the Corrective Action Plan. When the cleanup activities were proposed and finalized in 2022, Pinova was still an active manufacturing facility. Since the plant shutdown was announced in 2023, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division has stated that site investigations and cleanup activities may change to include areas that would have been excluded due to active facility operations. The Glynn Environmental Coalition anticipates Hercules and Pinova to provide an update on possible modifications to cleanup activities as a result of the shutdown.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT IS BEING HOSTED BY HERCULES AND PINOVA, NOT THE GLYNN ENVIRONMENTAL COALITION. This information is posted here to assist in notifying local impacted communities and raising awareness of the information that will be presented.
