Fall Membership Outing

We are heading to Nahunta to visit Mission Mine, a titanium and zirconium mineral sand mine! Our membership community will get an opportunity to see the process from start to finish - site preparation, active mining, and reclamation.

The mine was opened in 2013 and was operated through 2019 by Southern Ionics Minerals. In 2019, Chemours purchased the mine, but operations remain the same today. Southern Ionics Minerals had a strong program of environmental stewardship and community engagement that Chemours has continued since its ownership transition.

Critical Safety Details - PLEASE READ THROUGH ENTIRELY BEFORE REGISTERING

• ****All visitors must wear a long-sleeve shirt, long pants, and sturdy shoes (boots preferred). Everyone will get muddy and wet!****
• During our visit, we will climb to the top of the wet mill (approx. 70 ft.) via several stairways and platforms. We will take our time and make brief stops along the way. It may be tough for anyone who has difficulty with stairs or heights.

Event Schedule

9:00 AM - 9:05 AM - Welcome and depart

We will be leaving promptly at 9:00 AM, so please plan to arrive as early as 8:45 AM.

10:00 AM - 10:05 AM - Arrive at Mission Mine

1:15 PM - 1:30 PM - Depart for Lunch

We will be stopping for lunch on our way home (Scott's BBQ and Grill in Waynesville GA). Lunch is "buy your own", however, participants are more than welcome to bring a packed lunch if preferred.

3:00 PM - 3:05 PM - Depart for Brunswick

We will head home at 3 o'clock sharp to get participants home by 3:30 PM.
