EPA Requests 90 Day Extension for Response to First Office of Inspector General Report 

   EPA Region 4 has asked for a 90-day extension from the December 23, 2005 deadline to respond to the first Office of Inspector General (OIG) report concerning the Hercules 009 Landfill Superfund Site.  The Glynn Environmental Coalition (GEC) did submit our comments on the OIG report on time but has asked that we be allowed to comment until the comment period is closed to all others.

    The GEC noted that the OIG focused on the groundwater as the greatest threat to our community, but failed to note that the inappropriate toxaphene analytical method was used for soil removal actions at the Altama Elementary School and Benedict Road neighborhood.  The GEC has formally requested that all areas tested by the inappropriate toxaphene analytical method be retested.
